If you want the lightest full-grain leather case for your iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max, choose the Grip at 56 grams. If you would rather leave your wallet at home, choose the Wallet Leather Case: it carries four cards on the iPhone 18 Pro and five on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and it charges on Apple MagSafe with the cards still inside. If you want cards some days and a slim case the rest of the week, pair the Grip with the detachable Wallet Wrap. And if you actually drop your phone, choose the Buckler Grip or the Buckler Wallet — the only cases we make with 316 stainless steel shields on all four corners.
Everything below is the detail behind those four answers: the weights, the card counts, what charges wirelessly and what does not, and the three decisions that people actually get stuck on.
The short version
- Lightest: Grip Leather Case — 56 g (1.98 oz), from $99.
- Lightest built-in wallet: Wallet Leather Case — 98 g (3.46 oz), four cards on iPhone 18 Pro, five on iPhone 18 Pro Max, from $189.
- Most flexible: Grip plus the detachable Wallet Wrap — a slim case that becomes a folio wallet and a stand, from $198 together.
- Most protective: Buckler Grip — 63 g (2.22 oz) with 316 stainless steel corner shields, from $149.
- Most protective with cards: Buckler Wallet — 107 g (3.77 oz), steel corners, and it still charges on MagSafe with your cards inside, from $239.

Grip Leather Case — the slim one
The Grip is 56 grams of full-grain Patagonia leather over a rigid Tritan Copolyester frame, with raised edges, a hard-anodized aluminum camera ring and built-in N52 magnets for Apple MagSafe. It is the case for people who bought a thin phone and want to keep it feeling thin. It is also the base of the modular system: every V-Mag add-on we make snaps onto it, so a Grip today can become a wallet case later without buying a second case.
Choose it if the number that matters to you is weight in your pocket. Choose something else if you want to stop carrying a wallet, or if you drop your phone often enough to know it.
Wallet Leather Case — the one that replaces your wallet
The Wallet Leather Case has the wallet sewn in, not stuck on: four RFID-protected card slots on the iPhone 18 Pro version, five on the iPhone 18 Pro Max version, plus a pocket for folded bills and a leather front cover that closes over the display. Because the wallet is built into the body of the case rather than magnetically attached, the case charges on Apple MagSafe with your cards still inside — you never have to unload it to put it on a charger.
At 98 grams it is the lightest built-in wallet case we make. The trade-off is that it is one object: you cannot take the wallet off on a day you want a slim phone.
Wallet Wrap — the wallet you can take off
The Wallet Wrap is not a case. It is a detachable leather folio that magnetically attaches to the back of a Grip or a Buckler Grip and turns it into a full wallet case: four cards on iPhone 18 Pro and five on iPhone 18 Pro Max in the front cover, a long pocket for folded bills, a magnetic closure tab that wraps around, and a front cover that protects the screen. Open the cover and the back panel folds outward into a stand.
It adds 86 grams, and while it is on, the back panel sits over the magnetic area, so wireless charging is not available until you take it off. That is the deal the Wrap offers: full wallet when you want one, 56-gram Grip in five seconds when you don't.
Buckler Grip and Buckler Wallet — the protective ones
The Buckler line exists for one reason: the corners are where a dropped phone lands. Both Buckler cases add 316 stainless steel shields on all four corners plus our Bonded Layer, and both come in a single stock leather, Floater Black.
The Buckler Grip costs $50 more than the Grip and adds 7 grams — 63 g against 56 g. The Buckler Wallet costs $50 more than the Wallet Leather Case and adds 9 grams — 107 g against 98 g — while carrying the same four or five cards, closing over the screen, and still charging on MagSafe with the cards inside. If you want the most protective leather case that also carries your cards, that is the one.
The three decisions people actually get stuck on
1. Built-in wallet, or detachable Wallet Wrap?
The built-in Wallet Leather Case is 98 grams and $189. A Grip plus a Wallet Wrap is 142 grams and $198, carries the same cards, also covers the screen, and additionally works as a stand — but it has to come off to charge wirelessly.
So: built-in if you want the lightest, cheapest, no-thinking-required wallet case that never needs unloading. Detachable if the flexibility is worth 44 extra grams and one extra step at the charger.
2. Is the Buckler worth $50 more?
It buys 316 stainless steel on the four corners and the Bonded Layer, for 7 to 9 extra grams. If your phone has never hit the floor, the Grip or the Wallet is the better buy and comes in more leathers than the single Floater Black of the Buckler line. If it has, the $50 is cheaper than a screen.
One more comparison worth running: a Buckler Wallet is $239 and 107 grams. A Buckler Grip with a Wallet Wrap is $248 and 149 grams, and has to be taken apart to charge. The integrated Buckler Wallet wins on all three counts unless you specifically want the wallet to detach.
3. iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max?
The two versions are made to different dimensions and are not interchangeable, so the model you pick on the product page matters. It also changes what fits: the larger footprint of the iPhone 18 Pro Max is what makes room for a fifth card slot across the Wallet Leather Case, the Buckler Wallet and the Wallet Wrap. Everything else — leathers, weights, construction, MagSafe — is the same on both. Browse by model in iPhone 18 Pro Leather Cases or iPhone 18 Pro Max Leather Cases.
What all of these are made of
Every case starts as a full-grain Patagonian hide and is cut, stitched and burnished by hand in our Buenos Aires workshop. Full-grain means the outermost layer of the hide is left intact rather than sanded and coated, which is why the grain varies from piece to piece and why the leather darkens into a patina instead of flaking.
Underneath the leather, all five cases share Vaja's Tri-Layer Core: a rigid Tritan Copolyester structure for everyday drop protection, a soft Vaja leather lining against the phone, and N52 rare-earth magnets for Apple MagSafe. A hard-anodized aluminum ring guards the camera area. The Buckler cases add the 316 stainless steel corner shields and the Bonded Layer on top of that.
V-Mag: the add-ons that snap on
V-Mag is Vaja's magnetic attachment system — the same N52 magnet array that handles Apple MagSafe charging also holds our own accessories. That means a Grip is not a single-purpose object: snap on a Fold Stand for hands-free video, a Mini Wallet or a Card Wallet for a couple of cards, or the full Wallet Wrap. See all of them in V-Mag Add-Ons for iPhone 18 Pro & iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Custom orders — your choice of leather and thread on the Grip, the Wallet and the Buckler — are not open yet. They open shortly after launch, with a 7 to 21 day lead time, because each one is cut and stitched for a single order.
Frequently asked questions
Which iPhone 18 Pro leather case should I choose?
Start from what you want to stop carrying. If it is bulk, the Grip Leather Case at 56 grams is the lightest full-grain option. If it is your wallet, the Wallet Leather Case carries four cards on the iPhone 18 Pro and charges on MagSafe with them inside. If you want both depending on the day, put a detachable Wallet Wrap on a Grip. If it is the risk of a drop, the Buckler Grip adds 316 stainless steel corner shields for 7 extra grams.
Which is the most protective leather case for iPhone 18 Pro Max?
The Buckler line. Both the Buckler Grip and the Buckler Wallet add 316 stainless steel shields on all four corners — the part of the phone that takes the impact in a fall — plus Vaja's Bonded Layer, on top of the Tri-Layer Core, the rigid Tritan Copolyester structure and the hard-anodized aluminum camera ring that every case shares. The Buckler Grip weighs 63 grams and the Buckler Wallet 107 grams.
How many cards can I carry in an iPhone 18 Pro Max leather wallet case?
Five on the iPhone 18 Pro Max and four on the iPhone 18 Pro, in all three of our card-carrying pieces: the Wallet Leather Case, the Buckler Wallet and the detachable Wallet Wrap. All three also have a pocket for a few folded bills. The extra slot on the Pro Max versions comes from the larger footprint of that model.
Can I charge on Apple MagSafe with a leather wallet case on the iPhone 18 Pro?
With the built-in wallet cases, yes, and with the cards still inside: the Wallet Leather Case and the Buckler Wallet have the wallet sewn into the body of the case, so the N52 magnet array stays clear. With the detachable Wallet Wrap, no. Its back panel covers the magnetic area, so you take the Wrap off to charge wirelessly and leave the Grip on.
Which is lighter, the Wallet Leather Case or a Grip with the Wallet Wrap?
The Wallet Leather Case, by 44 grams. It is 98 grams as one integrated piece, while a Grip at 56 grams plus a Wallet Wrap at 86 grams comes to 142 grams. Both carry the same number of cards and both close over the screen, so the choice is between the lighter, cheaper integrated case and the heavier combination that detaches and doubles as a stand.
Do iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max cases fit both models?
No. Each case is made to the exact dimensions of one model, so an iPhone 18 Pro case does not fit an iPhone 18 Pro Max and the reverse is also true. Select your model on the product page before adding to cart. The V-Mag add-ons follow the same rule for the Wallet Wrap, while the Mini Wallet, the Card Wallet and the Fold Stand attach magnetically and are not model-specific.
Are Vaja iPhone 18 cases made from real leather?
Yes. Every case is handcrafted from real, full-grain leather sourced from Patagonia, Argentina, with a soft Vaja leather lining inside, and assembled by hand in our Buenos Aires workshop. Full-grain leaves the outer surface of the hide intact, so natural grain variation makes each piece subtly different and the leather develops a patina with use instead of peeling.
Do the V-Mag add-ons work with every iPhone 18 leather case?
The Fold Stand, the Mini Wallet and the Card Wallet snap onto any of our iPhone 18 cases, including both wallet cases. The Wallet Wrap is different: it is designed to convert a back cover into a folio, so it goes on the Grip or the Buckler Grip, and it is not needed on the Wallet Leather Case or the Buckler Wallet, which already have their wallets built in.
