Preserving Your Leather's Story

Our Bridge vegetable-tanned leather is an untreated leather that undergoes a natural tanning process using vegetable extracts, such as the tannins found in tree barks, leaves and fruits. It has a natural appearance with earthy colors that develop a rich patina over time with exposure to light, oils and handling, which is more noticeable on lighter colors such as London, Saddle Tan and Tabaco. While it may initially feel stiff, it softens with use and develops a unique suppleness over time. It has high absorbency, which means it readily absorbs oils, moisture and dyes. As it ages, the leather darkens and develops a unique character, reflecting the owner's usage patterns and lifestyle.

When dealing with spills on untreated leather, it's essential to tread carefully, as they can leave behind darker spots that are hard to remove. Surprisingly, applying leather wax in such situations may make these marks more visible, so it is not the ideal choice. However, applying leather wax to untreated leather does nourish and shield the material. It also accelerates the patina process, resulting in a richer, darker hue that enhances the leather's allure.

Your brand-new Floater iPhone leather case is finished with a delicate layer of lacquer that provides initial protection, reducing liquid penetration from spills such as coffee or water. If that happens, prompt removal usually lets the leather return to its original state. Over a few weeks of regular use, this protective lacquer gradually wears off.

To keep its pristine appearance, we recommend applying either leather care wax or waterproofer cream, depending on how you use your everyday companion. Leather wax can further conceal signs of a spill, though it may slightly alter the leather's appearance by enhancing its luster. On the other hand, when a Floater leather case is pre-treated with our waterproofing cream, liquids can't permeate the surface: they wipe away with a dry cloth, leaving no visible marks behind.

In contrast, our soft Caterina leather, often used for interiors, tends to accentuate liquid marks. However, leather treated with waterproofing cream proved resilient against liquid infiltration, keeping its pristine appearance even when exposed to water, coffee or oil.

Finished with a blend of waxes and oils, pull-up leather showcases natural markings. However, neither cream gave favorable results on it: if the leather was stained by a liquid, creams or wax made the stain worse, so we advise against using them on this leather. Instead, take advantage of the leather's own oils by gently massaging the affected area with your fingertip to diminish scratches or marks on the surface.
